About Pamela Montgomery MA EMDR
A few years ago, I went to a book signing of author, Anne Lamott. She began her introduction saying, "I was born an overly sensitive child..." She spoke of feeling 'too deeply,' being 'too smart,' and of her intuitive understanding that there was something deeper going on in the world than the adults were letting on.
I knew I was in the presence of a kindred spirit.
I grew up in Hudson, a small town about 35 miles west of Boston, Massachusetts. Like Lamott, I processed life deeply. I thought every experience was beautiful and important and was drawn to outsiders and underdogs. I, too, was an overly sensitive child...and empathetic.
The Rest of the Story
In grad school, I had some amazing experiences; building friendships, diving into research, and completing a 700-hour internship at SUWS of Idaho (an Aspen Education program, as seen featured on the "Dr. Phil" show) where I served as a Field Therapist working in wilderness therapy with at-risk youth, teens and their families and graduating in December of 2008 with my Master of Arts in Counseling from Colorado Christian University.
After celebrating my accomplishments with a trip to Australia to visit dear friends and nurture my soul, I began working in private practice as owner of Jouneys of Hope Counseling located at the Tall Oak Counseling Center in Colorado Springs, CO where I have the honor and blessing of walking alongside men and women who are hurting and in need of hope as they journey toward healing, wholeness and restoration. I enjoy the freedom of being in private practice and am thankful to live in
Colorado Springs where I live a simple life, by choice, where I can spend my free time connecting with nature, community and family. I love art, visiting museums, and reading. I recently married a wonderful, supportive man who couldn't be more opposite from myself and we're both learning so much about ourselves and growing as individuals and as a couple through life's inevitable ups and downs. The important thing is that we're doing it together and I'm so grateful for him.
Over the course of my life, I have experienced several major life challenges and, after some twists and turns in the road, have come out the other side a deeper, wiser, and more loving person. I truly believe that a therapist can not help others until s/he has traveled a deeply personal, transformational healing journey. I have walked that path and continue moving forward day after day. My story is a testimony to the power of God's work through the experience of psychotherapy.
I further my education and growth as a counselor through continued training, seminars and workshops. I am registered with the state of Colorado and am a member of the American Counseling Counseling Association and Colorado Association of Counselors..

Instead, I received my BA in Early Childhood Education from Westfield State University in Massachusetts. I spent some time teaching pre-school before having a son of my own. When it came time to go back to work and after moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado, I tried to 'find myself' in customer service, various positions in a local school district and in ministry, working in customer relations and system support, but nothing satisfied the longing I felt to make a difference.
It was in 2005, after going through some difficult life circumstances and pursuing my own counseling to get support through the difficulty, that I began to get a picture of what I was to do with my life. As I began to heal, I found that I had something to share with others. I wasn't sure what that something was, but found that strangers seemed to know. They would come to me - at work, in the grocery store, at the doctor's office - and share their stories. Finally, after a man that I didn't know came to my cubicle at work saying, "God told me to talk to you," and proceeded to share the pain of his childhood and father's rejection, I realized it was time to get some training in counseling.
At age 4, my parents withdrew me from dance classes because, instead of dancing, I sat in
the corner comforting another girl who cried and cried through every class. She cried. I
cried. Boy, if only I had known then what I know now - I would have understood that empathy and healing would be my life's calling. That knowledge would have saved me a lot of searching!

I am Pamela Montgomery MA EMDR, a Registered Psychotherapist, Christian Counselor and Coach. In my Colorado Springs based private private practice, using ecclectic therapy modalities combined with a Christian foundation, I have developed expertise working with women who are dealing with relational struggles, childhood trauma, codependency, low self-esteem, loss of self, stress, anxiety and depression.
I believe there are very few people who are blessed to witness, in this life, the ways in which God has moved in their life and worked 'all things together for good'. I am honored that, each day, I am allowed to see His hand take ashes of my own story and mold them into something beautiful as I work with women, guiding, coaching and supporting them as they grow and heal, moving from hopeless and hurting to whole and healing.
